Default Limp mode

I have a 2001 caravan sport. I recently stopped for gas after driving the hwy for 2 hrs, then restarted it, and it was in limp mode. The speedometer works fine so I don't think its the speed sensors. Only one indicator is lit up when you move the shifter, so that seems fine. I did the dash board scan and got the p0700 code. I was able to reset this by disconnecting the battery, and got home. Since this time I have not been able to reset it. I am stuck in limp mode. I am wondering if it is solenoids I should switch, or if I should do the tcm. Is there any way I can be sure.thanks

the only way you can be sure is to get a scanner that reads transmission control module and read the actual transmission codes and data to determine what the root cause of the problem is.

does any shops have a free scan. I know checkers does, but I don't think it talks to the tcm.

not one auto parts stores can scan TCM. your local highschool auto shop will have a scanner. I realize you are probably financially strapped, but also realize the tools needed to accurately diagnose this problem cost someone thousands of dollars. So expecting someone to give you free diagnosis is going to be difficult to find. I charge $50 for diagnosis of transmission problems. if they have me fix it, wave the fee. if they want to fix it themselves, then I charge for my time and use of my $3500 tool. I need to feed my family too.

HTML clipboardForgive me temple tapper I'm not trying to hijack your thread but I have a similar problem. My wife was driving our 2002 Grand Caravan eL yesterday and when she stopped at a red light and then started to go the van kind of lurched then died. She restarted and drove it home but the engine light came on and stayed. I ran diagnostic and the P0700 came up.

I drove the van this morning and when I got to the end of our road (4 or 5 hundred meters, I stopped at a stop sign started to go and it lurched then died, just as it did with my wife yesterday. I started it and drove it back home and parked it. I live about 8 miles from a repair shop that said they can read the transmission codes, but I'm not sure if I should drive it or not.

The lurching and dieing doesn't happen all the time. But it might if I continue to drive it. Could a solenoid cause something like this or would this be more an internal transmission problem?

Three years ago we had the TCM replaced. But at that time it wouldn't shift over 2 or 3 gear. I don't know what's wrong now. The transmission shifts fine but maybe this TCM has gone bad too.
By the way, what is "TCM"? The transmission computer?
