Default Engine block heater noise

My 2006 Dodge Caravan has an engine block heater. It seems to make a sizzling noise when plugged in and I have never noticed this the last couple of years. It's probably -20C or so in the garage right now and it sounds like a summer barbecue ! Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!!

I never had one that didn't make a sizzling noise. I have 4 diesel trucks and every one makes a noise when I plug it in. but if you are really worried, then by all means have a professional hear and evaluate the situation. afterall on the internet we professionals can't hear, smell, feel the symptom. I sure would feel bad if that noise was actually a wiring problem that causes a fire and burns down your car, house and family.

Mine have always made noise. In the garage where it's quiet, it's especially noticeable.
