So my moms van's fuel gauge started acting weird awhile ago...at first it was stuck at about a quarter tank... then after putting gas in it registered half a tank... then after that it goes between a half and the next mark down and stops working... we never know how much is in... now today its stopped working completely... PLEASE tell me we dont have to drop the tank and do crazy stuff... could it be a simple fix?

up in the diy, there should be a thread on how to do a cluster self test. Do that and make sure the gauge itself can function properly and move the full range. If so, climb under the van and disconnect the fuel pump connector with the key off. Turn the key on and see if the gauge goes to empty. Then turn the key off, ground the dark blue / white wire and turn the key on, see if the guage goes to full. If all check out good, you need to replace the fuel pump module.
