Default 2005 Gran Caravan Air Flow Issues.

Air/heat does not flow out of the floor vents or front windshield. The air/heat only flows out of the 3 main vents above the radio and near the 2 front doors. When activated, the back vents appear to be functioning fine. I can not get heat to the front floor or to defrost my front windshield. It does not matter that I have the airflow indicator highlighting the floor or windshield-the only flow is from those vents. Any suggestions- please help- my head is sweating, my feet are frozen and I can't get ice off my windshield. Thanks!

Default Air Flow Trouble

Chief,
Without any other information, my best guess is that the **** to adjust the airflow is stripped. This can be caused by attempting to turn it too far in a particular direction, just being to strong for your own good, letting your kids mess with them - or as I suspect - just plain cheap, poorly manufactured ***** as they were the identical **** in the Intrepid and the Grand Caravan.

I have had this happen to my '96 Grand Caravan as well as my Intrepid (Dodge - do you by the cheapest ***** possible JUST to aggravate us owners?) and simply got a replacement **** and all was back to good.

Pull the **** off (look at the inside of the **** to see if it shows sign of the "flat spot" rounding off) and see if you can manually turn the metal stud with a pliers or vice grips - making sure you don't strip or mangle it.
If it turns with the pliers and the air flows as you expect, then you will have to replace the **** - being careful to line up the "flat" edge on the **** and the metal stud - but it should be good after that.

If it turns, but does not affect the airflow, then you will have to dig deeper into the actual air dams and connections to see if a connection has failed, become disconnected from the air dam...etc.
If you need to dig deeper, you will need either a Haynes, Chiltons or other technical manual (careful to get the correct year model etc....)to see everything else - on the plus side, Haynes Manuals are pretty cheap (under $20) and available at almost EVERY parts store, but the Haynes may not have the level of detail you are looking for or need to trouble shoot this as you will need to remove dash components, potentially the Radio etc....
The Chiltons Manual would probably have to be ordered, but will provide COMPLETE information on entire engine tear down and rebuild, as well as dash, door panel, wheel...etc...disassembly, .
If you do proceed troubleshooting this further with the manual, during the disassembly, be gentle. Most of the plastic connectors can be replaced pretty cheaply, but a small investment in the kit that has a plastic putty knife and panel separator etc...is a good investment - especially if you plan on continuing to maintain your Van yourself.

In any event, the first step is to check the ****.

Good luck!

Chris

You bumped a 9 year old thread with an issue that has nothing to do with the subject at hand. Best to start your own thread.
