Transmission cooler question

Had a leak on one of my transmission lines. This one ran from the bottom of the radiator to the top by the water filler. What is this line for?

What is a water filter on a vehicle? Post a picture, it'll make it a lot easier for us to understand.

This is a 2000 minivan with a 41TE transmission. The hose your talking about goes from the aux cooler to the cooler in the radiator.
