I went to rotate my tires today after getting my van back from a shop that replaced my rack under warrenty, and low and behold 1 wheel stud on both front tires were put on way too tight, I was able to get the one to break free, but the other stud broke on the first pull, the rest of the lugs were on there good and tight too
never had any problems with the studs before, I rotate the tires every 4500 miles with a torque wrench, and the rear lugs came off easily
anyway went to the parts store, got a new stud and two nuts (one with out the cap for pulling through) hardware store to pick up a stack of washers and got at it,
the old stud came out on the 2nd hit, and I found you could easily place the new stud from the front edge of the wheel hub, then I cranked away at pulling the new stud in, (harder then I rember) then put the caliper bridge and caliper back on, bleed the brakes, and called it a day
total cost with the new stud, 2 nuts
and 7washers was about $7.50 and about 1hr and 15mins of time(would have been quicker but my kids kept pulling me away every 5mins)
could have waited till the weekend, but I am going on a small drive this weekend, (600miles) so rather get it done
