Power steering cooler hose leaking 2001 Grand C Sport 3.3l
Hi Guys, just wanted to ck with Tizzy and MasterTech.
How much of a pain is it going to be to remove the hose and reinstall new one any thoughts? Also I decided just to get the hose from Napa auto supply being it's just a return line. So I also didn't get the clamps, what do you think about reusing the old spring clamps? I can't find locally so what do think about using regular screw band clamps?

Don't reuse the clamps. If you use screw clamps, they loosen up over time so it might start to leak again. If you are using just hose from a roll, you have to make it long like the other hose that is on there. If you try to make it short, it will kink. Then tie wrap the hoses to the cooler so they don't bounce around and get cut.
Tizzy, your correct on the hose. It's to short to use a piece off the roll, so went back to the dealer and purchased the 5114531AA molded hose and clamps 6504217 (Qty2).
Also I got under the car again today to take a good look at the leaking area. It seems like it's coming out of the top of the hose only. I don't see any cracks there's no puddling of oil below the hose so it's not a huge amount. I wonder if I could just back off the old spring clamp and install a new clamp (efi style maybe) to stop the leak, rather than going through all the mess of replacing hose? I don't think that the oil on the outside of the hose should be a problem being the hose is designed to handle the PS oil? Well at least the inside of the hose? Any thoughts?

Howdy folks, first time posting here but have lurked for some time...nice place!
SO could some one tell me how much pressure the power steering cooler produces. My 2002 3.3l caravan keeps blowing the hoses I put on,but I have only used 3/8 windsheild wiper fluid hose.I see that part # 5114531aa is the replacement but there are 2 lines from the cooler. The one keeps blowing is the near one in the diagram,or the shorter of the two.I have some 3/8 50lb fuel line but there is just no way I can get it over the ridge of the cooler pipe.
COuld someone confirm that this is the number for the part I need.
Thanks guys

Pressure side hoses have screw together fittings.
These are the power steering lines....

the 2 metal lines held by clamp 5 and clip 12 are the return lines. One comes from the power steering rack, goes down to the cooler, through the cooler and back up the other line which goes to the reservoir. The longer hose was added by a dealer for a steering shudder complaint. Both of the hoses used to be the same size, just short U shaped hoses and squeeze clamps.

Any tricks on how to replace or does anyone know what the dealer charges for this job?
Sincere thanks for any thoughts/ideas!

Can anyone please tell me what's involved with changing the high pressure hose #2 on this drawing, which passes along the back of the motor?? It's held to the lower subframe adjacent to the oil cooler with clamp #4. This hose connects the P/S pump to the rack assy. I believe this is the high pressure output hose from the pump. It looks almost impossible to change. It connects from bottom of the P/S pump which is buried in the passenger side frame, plus the rack-end connection is buried in the suspension K-frame on the driver's side.

the only problems I had was the pump end, real hard reach from laying on your back, I recomend wearing long sleaves, there was a part of the frame that my arm keept hitting and resulted in 1/2 dozen small cuts
also you will need a 16mm flare nut wrench to remove the line from the pump,
and either a 18mm open or flare nut wrench to remove at the pump, I ended up cutting my 18mm wrench in half to be able to turn it, it's a tight fit
Dumb question.... 2002 T&C with the same issues.
Can I bypass the cooler all together? Run a 180 degree run of hose in lieu of the cooler?
3x in the last 2 years I have replaced the lower hose. Getting kind of sick of it. Just did it again yesterday.
