2005 Grand Caravan Parking Brake Cable Replacement
The front cable for my parking brake recently broke and I need some help on how to remove it from the retainer on the parking brake. The cylindrical fitting on the end of the cable is appears to be captured by a metal tab that is bent over the top of the cylindrical fitting. The tab is part of this pulley that appears to be connected to a torsion spring on the pedal which I presume is used to keep tension on the cable. Since access under the dash to this tab is quite difficult, it would appear that one has to remove the pedal from underneath the dash first in order to bend the tab back and release the cylindrical fitting from the pulley. From what I could see there are two bolts and a stud securing the bracket for the pedal in place to the car body. I tried loosening the fasteners however the pedal bracket would not budge. It looks as though there is another bracket supporting the dash that runs over the top of the bracket for the parking brake and removing that bracket looks to be a major ordeal (the parking brake pedal bracket must be installed first at the factory prior to the support structure for the dashboard). Any help on removing this cable would be very much appreciated.
