Default A/C causing issues..Need HELP

We have had a very noisy compressor? clutch? for a few years...had the system charged last year as it was low. Still very noisy this year, has been cycling off and on constantly...very abnormally...so we took it in but it did NOT need a charge..not low. Told us it was "expansion valve" turning off A/c to keep from freezing. Mechanic said if it were him he would not worry about replacing the valve. First off why would the system freeze up? System cools FINE...

Problem is because it cycles constanly off/on, off/on it causes issues (jerkiness/hesitation) while driving. Turn a/c off and jerkiness goes away. Never did this until this year.Thinking because of the constant cycling it is causing this issue.

thoughts?

The cycling is normal, this is the way they are designed to cycle on and off to prevent too high of pressures. If your compressor is making noise then it needs to be replaced period.

not so sure what we are experiencing is normal with cycling.... I don't ever remember it cycling off/on every 2-3 seconds...maybe it has and the noise is just worse making it more noticeable.

however, it is really causing issues while driving it...it's constantly pulling down on the engine.... causing jerkiness...I know that is not normal because we didn't experience this before this summer and it doesn't happen with a/c off.

the mechanic that checked it didn't say anything about the noise, compressor needing to be replaced or anything...he just said it was cycling a lot because of the expansion valve.
