Default DIY replacement of catalytic converter? ('02 Grand Caravan)

My mechanic (whom I trust) says I need to replace the catalytic converter. He doesn't do them - says it's too specialized and I should take it to a muffler shop for $200 (including converter). I can get a CC online for $80, and with my financial situation, $120 is a LOT of money.

Has anyone done a catalytic converter remove & replace on a 2002(ish) Grand Caravan? Is this do-able by a DIYer?

I know CCs can be really difficult to break loose/remove. I haven't looked up her skirt - not sure how her CC is attached. Exhaust clamps? Welded? Any insight on the procedure and/or tips on how to make this any easier will be much appreciated.

What your getting for $80 is probably a chop and fit. Could be ugly.
