Default 2005 key programing

Hi,
Can someone tell me if I can program the three button remote key without taking the van to the dealer? I have the two fob keys and plan to program the remote according to owners manual. Is it possible or will I screw up the remote key?
Thanks

I found this on the net - does it work - haven't a clue: 2004 to 2009 Caravan Programming Instructions

1. Insert one of your working combination keys into the ignition. Turn it to "On"; leave it in this position for about 10 seconds but no longer than 15 seconds. Turn it to "Off" and remove it.

2. Insert your second working combination key into the ignition within 15 seconds of removing the previous key. Turn it to "On". After 10 seconds, you'll hear a chime and the "Theft" light will begin to flash, entering synchronization mode. Turn the key to "Off" and remove it.

3. Insert the combination key you want to program. Turn it to "On." After 10 seconds, you'll hear a chime; then the "Theft" light will turn off. When the light turns off, the combination key--including the key and the remote--is programmed.

4. Repeat Step Three for each combination key you want to program. A total of eight can be programmed.

If you already have a remote, but it's non-functional, try replacing the battery. On average, the battery in a keyless remote will last approximately two years. Pry the remote apart with a coin to access the battery. Bring it to an electronics store to match it with the correct replacement battery.

Thanks. I got this stuff. The battery is fresh and the remote is blank. In other words it has never been programmed before. I'm just trying to confirm if the procedure is suitable for remote key. I know you can program the fob key that way. As I said I don't wont to mess the chip cause as you know they're bit expensive.

I can confirm that you can. I did have two fob key (w/o remote) and programmed a new remote key bought from ebay. But you have to get a fresh key. Used one is not programmable.

BTW: Mine is Caravan SE 05 w/ 3 buttons.
