"08 Dodge Grand Caravan, 3.8L engine, 51,000 miles. Recently on a cold startup there is a tapping noise that sounds like the valves tapping. Last about 3-4 seconds and then gone. Does not do it on warm startup. Van has always been service at dealer and has correct oil filter. Oil level on dip stick is full.

Sure it has a Mopar filter? I've known of some dealers that use crappy filters to make their oil change prices competitive. You may have just one lifter leaking down and that could be it. I would have to hear it to tell you if it's a bunch or just one. Go back to the dealer and tell them what's up and they should put you another filter in.

 

Hi , I've been using fram for over 5o years ! Go by Walmart pick up a 3614 prime with oil & install .
If this don't solve your problem you'll need to pull the oil pan & look at your oil screen to the oil pump & if it's clean pull the rod bearing fartherest from the oil pump suction & check the rod bearing for wear !!

I agree with TNtech. Take it back to the dealer and let them listen to it and resolve the issue. If they went cheap they need to make it right.
