Need help Problem with Transmission Dodge Caravan 97
Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum and with basic knowledge about cars. (Sorry for bad English)
I am having some strange problem with my caravan 3.3 LTR 4Speed 97.
1: my van had problem of backup lights so i took it to garage to fix. They spent some time with no luck but I got bad luck after, because when they told me that, there could be a problem with backup light switch and postponed it for another day due to extra job to approach Neutral Safety Switch.
So, I took my van out of garage and realized, it is missing 4th gear and speedometer **** was moving like RPM Meter in idle too. I took van back to garage and explained them they rechecked and told me that, input speed sensor wires were short so in short they didn't accept any of their fault but put everything on van itself.
(My Van was with very smooth shifting till it entered into garage for backup lights diagnose
)
So, Next day I got changed the input speed sensor and it started taking 4th gear but was getting back to 3rd gear upon a little extra step on acceleration and then to 4th again. I took the van again to garage and they made error code clear by attaching diagnostic tool (Not DBR 3 but with some other model)
Here the start of my real bad luck...Gear started jerking after that diagnostic tool. It has now jerk when I shift it to D or R from N and has another bad jerk when it takes 2nd gear and then it goes for 3rd as normal and 4th but strange is, it wont take 4th if i run it fast and will never shift to 4th after sometime of drive.
If i stop the van in side and switch off and restart then it takes all the gears but if i run it fast again miss 4th gear.
What I have done till now.
1: Input and output speed sensor changed.
2: Gear Oil changed.
3: Changed Solenoid.
But still in bad luck...Any idea and help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Cougar41 for reply,
No, it has not any service light. I did check the codes which were as followings.
In first attempt error codes:
1: Input Speed Sensor. (Already Changed.)
2: Cam Sensor. (Garage Person said not so required for this problem so I left it.)
Second attempt error codes:
1: Ratio Control.
2: Output Speed Sensor (Already Changed.)
My van is now in garage with Gearbox oil pan opened to change Neutral Safety Switch.
Any Idea if I can do something good in advance while gearbox oil pan and valve body is opened as well as accumulator Pistons are out. Thanks again.

If they are dropping the pan and valve body to change a part it would have to be the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS)(if it's the same as US Spec). The TRS has much more to do with your problem. The NSS is used on 3 speed trannys. As far as I know other than changing the filter and fluid, there's not much more to do in that area but I'm not a tranny expert either.
So, yesterday everything sorted out. I went to other garage who have good reputation in maintenance of European Cars.
Problems detected:
1: Input Speed Sensor.
2: Output Speed Sensor.
Steps Taken:
1: Quick Learn Procedure with diagnostic tool. (They have some serious kind of diagnostic tools with them.) I will try to update information of particular diagnostic tool used for this van.
2: Input Speed sensor has been changed once again, maybe something went wrong with that even replaced last time.
3: Wiring also re-arranged for one sensor. (May be last garage people played with that.)
Conclusion:
1: NEVER mess with this van other than recommended diagnostic tools.
2: Don't let monkey mechanics touch your ride. Otherwise...!!!!!
3: It got too many faults after attempting to clear codes with a third party diagnostic tool. (Which was not good for this ride.) May be some other could be good, but need to be sure before doing it.
Cougar41, Thank you very much for staying with me.
Happy Life, once again.
