Default Alternator amp. size to buy?

06, grand caravan, 3.8

If you were going to buy an alternator for the van. What size amp would the output be? The options seen at parts store is 140 vs. 160. Same price. With the discount on line, its 140 and then add tax. I may not buy either, still working on buying alt. pulley idea, but need back up plan.

Looked in manual (see attachment, but you would increase magnification) and it doesn't show either 140 or 160. Says 100 or 115 (hot) as the minimum.

What determines the size needed. Is it how many accessories running and engine size?

By the way has anyone ever removed pulley with impact gun so special tool is not needed?

best way to find out is google your van and look at the factory specs for it. I do this all the time to insure i get what belongs on my car

Your right. I did do that and found both options exist. no explanation why the difference was given. also both alternators 140 and 160 amp say "exact" for my van when I go to online parts. So.....

You might be better off to get your OEM unit rebuilt in you local area, it will be cheaper and you can have the rebuilder set up the alternator to match the van needs.

the alt. runs fine, no electric problems. its the alt. pulley. but not always cost effective to purchase pulley and tool if needed to replace. that is why i considered alt. as back up.

so what size is recommended alternator: 140 v 160 amp. for the van's needs?
