Serpentine Belt will not fit after replacing power steering pump and pulley.
Hello Folks,
We have signed up for this DodgeForum.com, because we are having nothing but Dodge issues, which began quite some time ago, let us explain:
Purchased the car in July 2011
2000 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3L V6 Sport
We began going through a bottle of week of power steering fluid, so we replaced the supply line, through a local mechanic. A month after that, we began going through 3 bottles a week, and then finally 5 bottles for each 6 hour period of driving. The 5 bottles for each 6 hour period of driving, ended rather quickly because at that point their was no turning back when the power steering pump began smoking, which led to serpentine belt coming off.
We decided we were going to fix this ourselves, so we began the project on the 23rd of December, 2011, unfortunately nothing went smoothly once that project began. It is currently 27th of December, 2011, and the car is still not back on the road, so we were left out of all Christmas family functions.
On Christmas Day, we got everything back on...The new power steering pump, the new power steering pulley, and the serpentine belt, and we began the drive to our families house, we made it as far as the next town over, which is about 5 miles, before we heard an odd sound coming from the engine. We pulled over, popped the hood, and the serpentine belt was about to fall off, so back home we headed, Thank GOD, Taco Bell was open or we would have had Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwiches for Christmas dinner.
Now come the day after Christmas and we head to Auto Zone to get a new serpentine belt, not because the old one snapped, but because it was frayed, and we attempt to put the new one back on, and it will not fit. It is not that it is too small, it is too large, and we did check and make sure we were given the correct part number, and we compared it against the existing belt that did fit just fine.
Can someone - anyone, please help, we have no idea what we are doing wrong, and we desperately need to get this car back on the road. Auto Zone is within walking distance from our home.
One last thing, although the power steering pump and pulley are brand new, we are still leaking fluid, and during the trip to the town 5 miles away, we had no power steering, but right now our biggest concern is getting this serpentine belt to actually fit.
Thank you.

No, it was being put on incorrectly, ended up getting frustrated, and taking it up to the local mechanical shop. We suppose in an odd way, it was a blessing that we took it up too the mechanical shop, because we realized the reason the power steering pump was leaking after being replaced, was because are Rack & Pinion are shot. Thank you for your response, we truly appreciate it.
