Default Buying a used Caravan

I started looking for a used Grand Caravan today and would love a little help. I think my budget tops out around 12,000 and I would like to have power doors. Should I look at a new body style 2008 or a 2007 with more options and less miles. What are the common issues with either? 3.8 or 3.3 liter V6? I really have zero knowledge here but we totaled our van and need to replace it. The Grand Caravan looks like it will work but I am a little worried about the transmission in such a heavy car and would like some opinions.
Thanks
David

Hey Dave..here is a link to help compare makes and models..
http://autos.msn.com/research/compar...dt=0&v=t105839

Looks like Toronto has quite a few 2008 GC's with under 100k around your price range.
It is hard to say without researching which make is the most dependable and the best bang for your buck..I know the post 2000 3.3L are quite durable. In fact my 2002 has 197k and has done plenty of 3000lb+ towing and still rollin issue free.. there is a tranny cooler added under neath about midship so this may help with the heating issues hard working trannys have...
I believe that with proper maintenance and care any vehicle will last...

Good Luck in your purchase..

Thanks for the reply. I am still looking for the van. I think I will focus on the 2008 + with 60,000 miles or less. We will see if I can get one for the right price.

I would use autotrader.com for your area and search with that. For example I found an '07 and and '08 in my area within your price range and mileage but there were only two.

As with any vehicle, each has their own problems, some people hate Caravans because they had a bad one while some hate Honda for the same reasons. Yes typically Dodges have more problems than say Honda/Toyota but you will also pay 7-10k more for a similar one. I've had relative have Caravans last for years and year 150-200+k, yeah they need work at times but maintaince is needed with all vehicles.

Good luck with your search, my advice is to take time and search, there are always deals that pop up but don't last long. Me, I was lucky to find a '06 GC SXT with 10k on it....practically new with out the new price.
