Default Thermometer on the fritz

I have a 1992 Town and Country, 3.3L, with the overhead information center. My thermometer has always been fairly accurate until sometime in the last few weeks. Now it's been reading anywhere between 5 and 15 degrees warmer than it should when driving.

Is this indicative of some more ominous problem? Or is there perhaps a way to make it behave? And just where is the little guy located anyway? If I can find it, I can at least see if it's covered with gunk or anything like that.

The ambient temperature sensor is located on a support bar behind the center of the grille.
