2001 Grand Caravan EX lift gate electrical latch motor fried
Our 2001 Grand Caravan EX (automatic lift gate with electrically acutated locking mechanism) is not so automatic anymore. The only way we can open the liftgate is by key. I took apart the latch/actuator assembly, and discovered that the internal motor is fried. Pieces of the brushes fell out as I removed it from the actuator assembly. I'm looking for suggestions on how I can repair/replace our lock most affordably.
At first glance it looks like I have to buy the whole unit - lock + actuator assembly, as they both have molded wiring that meet together at the electrical connector.
Dodge dealer is saying $235 for the unit. I'm saying, "there has to be a better way"! Probably no chance in finding a supplier for the motor, but maybe there are OEMs that sell just the actuator part that bolts onto the locking mechanism?
Suggestions Appreciated !!!

No - that is not it. Looks like this one is for vans w/out power lift gate. The EX has a power lift gate, which adds complexity to the logic needed. Thanks though

Our GC is a 2001 EX, with a 3.8L engine. Not sure about timing belt/chain.
We ended up purchasing a new actuator , part # 5017887AA from http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=215039
Spent around 110. with tax/shipping.
Did not come with locking latch part, only actuator. This meant I had to remove two wires (that come from the locking latch) from the old common connector (connector collects wires from both actuator unit and locking latch), and then insert into the new common connector that came with the actuator (there were 2 spare slots). Wire colors are same on both sides (other side of connector is part of pigtail inside of rear hatch). Actuator unit screwed in fine to old locking latch. All working very well. Wife thrilled to not have to use key to open rear hatch.
