03 Intake leak?
3.3 Flex Fuel w/ 140k. Has no EGR hardware installed from factory, they came both ways, dealer's choice.
Runs fine from cold start. But, shut down warm engine and restart 20 or so mins later, experience very low idle, trys to stall if you crack the throttle like a carb with bad accelerator pump. Keep it running for a few mins, maybe 5 or 10 and all will be Ok. Or let it sit for an hour and will restart OK.
Replaced frayed vac hoses, even pull them one at a time and plug the nipple, no help. Cleaned throttle body, had upper manifold off but saw no obvious cracking. "O"ring gaskets looked OK but did not check for surface flatness. Found brown film of oil inside but from forum this seems to be expected. Replaced spark plugs since the I had access, well it does have 140 on it.
On one occasion heard a clacking sound from in back of engine, like a solenoid pulling in and engine idle got, and stayed, OK.
One mechanic I discussed this with told me to just replace the plastic manifold, said this is common problem. Is he telling it like it is?
Have I missed something?
Also, I want to test the air temp sensor since problem seems to be temp sensitive. Have pdf of shop manual but need specs, like 60deg. equals so many ohms, etc. Does this info exist on line?
Thanks,
Stan

Well no takers, so I'll share what I have found.
I just put up with the behavior till a week ago, it would not start. After several trys it ran. If I just cracked the throttle and held it in place the engine would slowly rev up and run ok.
Mechanic friend suggested the intake air sensor which I swapped out. Van now runs ok, but once in a while is still a bit soft on a restart.
Question; can someone point me to a temp vs. resistance chart for THIS particular engine? Would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Stan
