Sae trouble code p 0442
Hello,
I have a 2003 Dodge Caravan in Poland. For over the past year, I have been having the engine light come on. I have been to a few electronics mechanics who were able to turn the light off, only for it to come back on within 2 - 3 weeks. It is difficult to find mechanics here who are able to work on American cars. There have been a few eager ones whose enthusiam I am grateful for. However, the result was the same - about three weeks before the light re-appeared.
Found a seemingly competent mechanic about a week ago who gave me the following read from his computer:
EVAP LEAK MEDIUM
SAE TROUBLE CODE
P 0442
Anyone with any info how to resolve this, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jackson880

Well... kinda hard to say what's wrong with it just by looking at the code.
Find a Mechanic with a Smoke Machine. Tell him to pinch off the VENT hose, put the smoke machine into the Gas filler neck, and see where is it leaking. Most of the time it will be a line near sub frame.
If he doesn't know where is the Vent hose is, tell him to smoke the gas tank, where ever he see A LOT of smoke coming out of a big black cylinder at the end of a hose, that's the vent, tell him to pinch that hose and keep looking.
