when i put the shifter in park the little square light that goes around the P R N D goes out and it will not come out of park.i then have to hope i can shake it till the light comes back on,then it will come out of park.it also does this when you go to move the shifter when it is in drive you can not put it into another gear with out pressing the button in. but now you can change the gears with out pressing the button.thats not right.brought the van in an the guy could not find anything. he did find a spring that was 1-3/4x1/4 he does not know where it came from.does anyone know how to fix this?and sorry i have a 3.3 in it and it is a 08 se

 

Have someone look when you press the brake to see if the lights come on . You could have a bad switch or kicked out of adjustment by a big foot ? The relay will not operate if you have no lights . Lane

 

You probably need a shifter assembly, I've done a few in the dealer myself.
and yes, check the brake light. Also, there is a by pass button on top of the shifter stick that's cap off by a retangle cap.

i did change to shifter assembly and that did nothing.then i adjusted the shifter cable at the transmission and it works fine for now thanks for your help
