Default 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan radio

Hi, thanks to a tip from someone on this site, I now know my Caravan is a Grand Caravan SE LWB wagon, not the base model I thought it was. What LWB wagon means I don't know. I have the expensive radio in this car, the one with all the bells and whistles. I get AM perfect, but with FM I have a very weak signal. I can hear the stations by turning it up louder, but there is a lot of static. Is there a separate antenna for FM on this radio? The antenna that plugs in to the back has a weird looking cloth cover around it. I am guessing, from a Heath Kit stereo that I built a long time ago, that had a similar cable that had a separate wire inside the cover that went to a FM antenna. I don't know beans about car radios, never had problems with one before, but I do need FM in one. I hope there is some radio experts here. Thanks in advance for any help you can give. Thanks, Terry

Did you by chance take out the radio and make sure the antenna didnt get unplugged by accident? If you are in an area with a lot of AM stations, sometimes you can get some AM stations even without an antenna. FM signals don’t travel as far. There's 4 screws holding the faceplate, 2 right above the radio and 2 behind a clip-in panel right above the cup holders that just pulls right out. Than 2 3/8'' to remove the head unit itself.

Default Found out locally

I thought I should post what I found out in case it will help someone else. The 1996 Dodge grand caravan has a seperate antenna in the front windshield for FM. The guy I talked to said if I can still hear stations no matter how bad the static is on FM it's 95% that the radio is ok. Told me to get a hidden type antenna, it is way easier than trying to fix the windshield OEM. It's probably broken way under the dash and would be extremely hard to fix. The Mr. Gasket one I bought will be here in 2 days I will post how it works.
