We have an '05 Grand Caravan 3.8L Van which we both have loved so far. Today on our ride home the A/C suddenly went from nice and cool to quite uncomfortable (we live in TX so that's 105 outside). I also noticed a random, not constant, rattle or grinding kind of sound. Very short and only a few times. Upon later inspection at home, a smell of burning rubber and a lot of belt debris is on that side of the engine compartment. Running the engine I can see what I believe to be the harmonic balancer (vibration dampener) is wobbling badly. Most likely the source of noise? What could be the culprit(s)? Is the compressor possibly seized?
