Ran into that in the Air Force a few times working on jets. Extremely frustrating and tedious work. Then they came out with Time Domain Reflectometers (TDR) making it far easier to find a wire problem. They are meant for coaxial cables but can be used on stranded wires as long as they are in the same wire bundle. It will tell you how many feet/inches down a wire the break or high resistance spot is. Mention it to your tech. I've seen hand held versions for as little as $300.

Resurrecting this old thread because I have very similar symptoms to what the OP here had. My van is also an '08 but has the 3.3 engine. I changed the plugs and wires and the next day the van threw P0339 and P1228, and lit both the CEL and ESP lights. Driving it around last night the van occasionally died when at a complete stop, and had an occasional hesitation and jerky shifting. Today I replaced the crankshaft position sensor and added the shim in that TSB, and also replaced the MAP sensor. I drove it for about 10 minutes on a city street and made sure it got to operating temperature. There were no problems and the van seemed to run fine, with no CEL or ESP light. Then I turned onto the freeway, stepped rather hard on the gas pedal, and the CEL and jerkiness returned.

Questions:
  • Was I supposed to use a scan tool to clear the code first? I did remove the battery to give me some elbow room to get at the crank sensor, so I would have thought that would have erased the code.
  • Was I supposed to do some re-learn procedure first, such as drive slowly for a certain amount of time before gunning it?
  • Should I also replace the cam sensor?
I am really, really hoping that I don't have a wire problem like the OP here had.
