Default going camping someday

The wife and i want to go camping next year. I was planning on using our 2000 caravan sport (3.8l) to tow our pop up camper. I was wondering if this would be a suitable car for this task, and if there are any mods/upgrades that is hould do too

if your pop up trailer is 1500lbs then should be fine. any mods i think if you want to make it any better would be adding a tranny cooler and oil cooler to assist in keeping things cool. but if u use common sense and not pushing it hard you should be able to keep it ok within the rating of 1500lbs.

Simply adding a tranny cooler is all you need for towing 3000+ lbs. The Chrysler tow package consists of a external transmission oil cooler and upgraded rear suspension bump stops. The engine/trans are easily capable of pulling well over 3000 lbs if you drive responsibly and carefully. I have personally pulled over 6000 lbs with my van although I would not recommend it.

Any trailer over 1500lbs is supposed to have it's own braking system as well and make sure to have the appropriate brake controller installed in your van. If you are going to tow regularly I'd also recommend adding supplemental rear suspension air bags. I installed the Air Lift system in my van for roughly $500 and it keeps my van level even with high tongue loads and a load in the rear of the van.

I doubt you'll even feel that behind you. My camper is around 2300lbs dry and after gearing everything up I generally have 3400lbs in total. I still travel with my A/C on and as I say, just use basic care that you most likely already use when pulling the extra weight.
