Default steering boot help, 2006 grand caravan

hi guys

new to this forum, wondering if i can get someones help

i have a 2006 grand caravan, with stow and go, i was checking the carpet below the gas pedal, and discovered the rubber boot/seal around the bottom of the steering column ?, has spilt and worn out and has come disconnected, is that something that i can just replace myself, or do i have to take it to a dealer, i am not having issues with steering, i am just worried about foreign objects grit etc , getting down in the steering, any help with this would be greatly appreciated
thanks
mark

It depends on your abilities, You should be able to do it yourself it is a bit of a pain to do (tight space) but doable. Just remember not to spin the steering wheel when the shaft is disconnected.

I did not ask the dealer how much they charge when I did mine, but I would guess that they would bill you minimum of 1 hour but most likely 2 hours labour. The part cost around $75.00 if I remember correctly.

Please do post back and let us know what part number you obtained, if it fit and if you ran into anything unexpected.

Mine is also torn, I suspect the dealership that replaced the steering rack before I bought the van tore it and just ignored the problem

I did the one on my 2007 a few months ago. It was an easy job just disconnect the shaft at the pinch bolt. Tie the steering wheel to keep it from accidently turning. Then pull the carpet back remove the 3 screws, lift the seal up over the shaft. Then install the new seals and reconnect the pinch bolt. Took about 1/2 hour or so. Part was about $75.00
