Default Lost keys. Options?

Hello,

I lost my keys to a 2002 Dodge Caravan. The dealer wants $200 for a new key made. Is it possible to go to a junkyard and get a ignition tumbler and key?

I've done this for my jeep, but I was wondering if the was a chip in the key or something.

If you have factory theft then just changing the cylinder/key will cause it to go into theft mode and that will cost you ALOT to get it out of theft mode.

Try a few other dealers, but I would pay $200 to get a key for my van if I lost them all. Much easier than reprogramming for a new cylinder/key.

some locksmiths will do the work for far less money. they will even come to your location so you don't have to tow it

Tough luck. Your gonna have to come off the wallet or do some leg work on eBay making sure the switch and key set has the chipped key.

Or cruise the salvage yards for one who will let you take it off one or out of a column. Just make sure you have the Gray key.

Then you have to get the dealer to flash it to your module.

Then you can get more keys from eBay and program them to the dealer flashed one.

Maybe those here that know the compatible makes and year models that will work can give you the list.

I keep a spare Zip-Tied under the van. Magnets and tape let go sometimes.

Meanwhile you may find this video helpful. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/more...760&cc=1440643
