Default Weak Headlights

I have a 98 CG. Except for the transmission this has been a great vehicle, but the headlight system is pretty feeble. Headlights are adjusted correctly and I put Sylvania X-Tra Vision bulbs in it, but still not bright enough (especially on low beams). Anyone else have this issue? Is is a design problem? I don't want to spend hudreds to replace with HID (even if you can?) Any suggestions? Thanks...

It is a design problem and a common topic on many forums in the past. I added the same bulbs and they brightened up a tick. If the plastic lenses have "fogged" over there are any number of kits out there to clean them up. Other than that many go with the HID option.

One thing I am into is vehicle lighting. I have a 2002 and I concidered it weak too but have not ridden in a 98.

Just so you know, there are lots of junk so-called HID kits out there. If you want better light don't get anything that casts a color. Especially blue. You want neutral.
Also if your lenses are yellowing you can buff them but don't toss the kit because you will be maintaining them. The OE light makers coat the lenses with a protective baked on layer that we cannot duplicate.

You can shop Rockauto.com if you like.

Are yours the single 9007 lamp or the quad setup? Unfortunately when the auto makers went in for cutting costs with the single 9007 bulb, by cramming high and low beam elements in a single bulb we suffered.

Thanks guys. Yes, they are the 9007 bulbs. I have sanded and buffed the left lens and it certainly helped, but man these things are dimmer than any other car I've owned. Thanks for your replies.
