09 Grand Caravan spare tire storage

I just bought my first 09 Caravan a few weeks ago. I have just realized where the spare is located! Is that not a pain to remove?

Yes it is and if you don't take it down once and a while and lubricate the locking mechanism you will not get it down without a lot of trouble.

was wondering what model year this ceased to be a problem. my '03 needs to be greased often

So once it comes down would you not need to be wearing a pair of coveralls to crawl under and get the cable unhooked? Does it drop dead center of the vehicle of does it deposit closer to one side than the other?

From the manual:

The cable is long enough to drag the tire out from under the van to unhook the cable.
