2002 GCS 3.3 Injector Harness Inspection
Well..... I could not stand it and had to look at the injector fuel rail harness area that has melted on so many. I don't like those kind of surprises. She has over 125k miles now.
We read and post so much more bad news than good news I had to post this up.
It seemed to be routed fine, all the OE bracket attachments were in place and coverings were intact.
The previous owner kept meticulous records and no indication there, or on the van shown any signs of previous work.
I got her apart and peeled the mesh covering apart, its Velcro on one side that clings to the mesh.
Looking at them all seemed normal. There were no horrific looking bare wires as I have seen across the Webb. What I did find was they were stuck or lightly melted together.
I took a pocket Philips screwdriver and used the smooth round chrome shank to run between the wires with tender loving care and patience. They all separated evenly. It was kind of like peeling a set of speaker wires apart to make a connection but in sets of more than two and easier.
I inspected it as far as possible. The pics below show a distance past the point of the melting areas. The black or charred looking areas are the factory tape residue.
I inspected as much of the harness going the other way as possible and its all good.
I taped, loomed and rerouted it as you can see, up and away from the heat and then took a drive. All is good.
So fear not. Not all of us get melted as soon as others. She was trying though.
