Strange error msgs from 2009 Grand Caravan ...
Hey, guys.
We have a 2009 Grand Caravan SXT. Bought new, around 65,000 miles. About 4 days ago it started telling me a door was open. I went and checked all of them, even the tailgate, none open. Figured maybe it was just the cold weather?
Then a day later I started getting the "loose gas cap" message on the dash, and starting yesterday the little yellow engine icon is lit, I assume meaning "service required" or something like that?
I have a code reader somewhere I need to find, and haven't had a chance to bring it in yet. Any ideas what it might be? It seems to run fine.
Thanks very much in advance,
Chris

The loose gas cap message means it detects an evaporative emissions leak so large it assumes you left the gas cap loose. If detected long enough, it illuminates the check engine lamp because it assumes you tightened the cap and it is still detecting the leak.
Thanks, Tizzy1. I'll check the cap again, maybe I need a new one. I'm hoping the sensors might just be a little confused and that could explain the door ajar message. I suppose it's possible one of those sensors is toast.
The yellow engine icon is the check engine light. It means the engine computer (PCM) has detected a fault and stored a corresponding fault code. Find that code reader or head to a parts store. Most will read your codes for free.
