I bought a used van about 10 months ago had some minor issues with oil leaks but the transmission has had no problems... about a month ago the transmission seemed to not shift into 1st or reverse but once up to speed it was fine...the problem fixed itself...about 3 days ago im driving home on my 2-3mile drive and all of the sudden the tranny just stops shifting or working all together. I reved the motor and it would get a little bit of speed going down hills...just enough to get me home...now it doesnt want to drive at all....any takers on this one....??????

 

This is how the transmission failed on our 98. Pull the dipstick and check for metal and/or a burnt smell. What's your mileage?

 

yea i pulled the dipstick and it doesnt smell burned but its not as red as normal....i must also ad that i put in some lucas for the transmission...this seemed to only make it worse.

 

oh and im at 140000 miles roughly..
