Default HVAC blower issue...

I'm the original owner of a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan ES with 196,129 mile on it. I will tell you that the vehicle has been a champ and never left us anywhere including many trips to Disneyworld. Last night I get in and start the vehicle to find the blower on at full (hvac unit is the atc 3 level system). I look and see the blower speed light indictor is set at lowest setting so I turn the unit off and hear door movement and the blower gets stronger with the unit off. I turn back on and I can hear the door movement again and the blower goes to the original speed it was at first. I can change the temperature and adjust the vent functions but can't get the blower to function correctly. If I pull the blower relay out of course the blower stops so I know that something is powering up the relay prematurely. I even went as far as unplugging the hvac control unit and that didn't stop the blower....does anyone have any ideas of what to check?

The power module (blower resistor for the ATC) has failed. Probably caused by the blower motor drawing too much current and overheated the resistor. If it were mine, I would replace the blower motor and the power module. You can replace just the power module and see how far you get but they are expensive so your choice.

Tizzy1 thanks for the help... I tested resisitor and was faulty....when I ordered the resisitor at the dealer the guy told me they were updated so I shouldn't have to change the blower motor....I had to give them the old one in return....again thanks...

Yep, they updated them so the connector will melt before the resistor will blow. Still caused by the blower motor drawing too much.
