Totalled 08 Caravan / Looking at 08 T&C
Wow, been years since I posted here.
Just put ~$600 in new brakes and tires on our beloved 08 Caravan only to have my son rearend someone, deploy the bags, and have the adjuster total it. Yeah, the boys OK but let's just say there was a phone involved.
We're looking at an immaculate 08 T&C w/ 130k miles for $8800 from the original, elderly owners (miles were trips to visit kids out of state).
My wife typically drives my company F150 to run errands so the van won't get 15k miles on it a year. It'll be a second vehicle.
Am I nuts to buy a van w/ 130k miles on it? Ours had like miles and was a dream to drive.
We don't want to borrow any money and typically run our vehicles responsibly w/ regular maintenance and care until their twilight.
Thanks for the feedback.

Well, glad to hear no one is hurt. I hope you do something about those phones.
Honestly, I would recommend a 2013 Caravan instead, if you can afford it. A Dramatic improvement all around. And Chrysler also fixed the crappy Brake system they have on 08-11 Caravans, so you don't need brake every 25k miles.
130k miles is really nothing in terms of engine and trans on the 08, provided he did all his maintenance. Ask him to show record. If he can't, pull the trans dip stick and check if he ever change the fluid, or open the oil cap, shine a light in, and see if you can find sludge. Even look at the Spark Plug wire, it has a Date on it if it a Mopar, that will tell you if he did a tune up.
Also, 8.8k is way too high. these Van doesn't worth too much once it get pass 100k.

Just buy an entry level 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan. The new van has many safety features to keep your family safe. I wouldn't buy A van with 130,000 miles for $8800. Use that money towards a down payment for a new vehicle.
