Default 2001 caravan courtesy lights fade to black after only five seconds

The owners manual says they should stay on for 30 seconds, is the timing adjustable?

not that I am aware of. Probably something else wrong. I know after they shut off the first time, then the delay shortens. Maybe it's seeing the key in or something.

No, the lights go out before I can get the key in. That is one of the frustrating things about this problem.

I didn't mean you had the key in, I meant it thinks you have the key in when you don't actually. The system doesn't work if the key is on or the dome lamps are in defeat position.

Chime go off when you open the door? Otherwise most of that body computor stuff requires a scan tool to check.

The chime goes off when I start the vehicle but not when the door opens. I had a
Chrysler dealer check the computer and he said there were no codes that code be modified.

Wouldn't neccessarily leave a code. Opens, shorts, stuff like that leave codes. Sticking or failing within a good area wouldn't be recognized as faulty by the computor. Kinda tough with your situation because they really don't explain it that well as to how it works. It just does, magic! So you just poke around and look for things that aren't responsive. If all looks ok, you throw a computor at it and see if it works.
