Default change your air filter, change your life

one of the many things i tended to on the 1996 HippieVan before the skiKation (which im currently on) is the 11.99 air filter. i pulled out the old one, and it "looked" pretty clean and put it back together, deciding NOT to change it. i was at the auto parts store a few days later and saw that it was only 11.99 for the filter, so i picked one up and change it later that day....man what a difference!!! the rig has much better pickup, gas mileage is up and more importantly my tranny shifts much smoother/better!! who would have thought?!?!

regardless of what your filter "looks" like, change your filter, change your life!

First off, why in the world are you posting here while you're on vacation?!?!

I swear by the reusable filters (K&N, Spectre, etc.). They have a much better flow rate than the paper ones. I run a Spectre on my GC and a K&N on my Honda and my gas mileage and power have improved over the Fram/STP paper filters. The drawback is that when you wash them you need to let them air dry, which takes time, but I just keep my last dirty paper filter in the garage and pop it in when I do a cleaning so that I at least have a driveable car while the reusable one dries. Neither car runs nearly as smoothly if I have to drive it with the dirty paper filter, but my setup works great the remaining 364 days of the year.

If you don't want to pop the $$ for a reusable air filter, then definitely replace it at the manufacturer-specified interval.

Just my .02...

yeah, i saw the KN filter, but i also saw the price....considering how much i have spent on this trip/hippievan for this skiKation, i simply could not see dropping $79.99 for the KN vs $11.99 for the Fram. so far, for this trip i put on new brakes, new tires, new headlight units (new bulbs too), new driving bulbs, custom install of usb/power sockets in rear armrest pockets, hours buffing out the filthy innards of the rig....and today i came out of the Luxx hotel in santa fe to a dead battery...another sub-freezing night. so i called AAA and we tested the existing battery, turns out its damaged (bad cell possibly) and will not hold a charge, esp at altitude and sub-freezing temps....so i had them drop in fresh new juice.....all that i have have YET to put sticks on the snow....thats tomorrow morning!

follow the madness here.....
