2010 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT shifter issues
Hi, I'm new to this forum and would really appreciate any help! I have a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. One day my wife said she couldn't get the key out of the ignition. After tinkering around, I realized that there was an issue with the button on the shifter. Normally if you don't press down on the button, you can move the shifter all the way down to drive but then it won't let you proceed to manual mode without pressing the button and you can't move it from neutral to reverse without pressing the button, etc. In this situation the shifter would move freely to all positions. After moving it up and down a few times, I heard a click and it started working again. This issue has become more frequent and needs to be addressed. Other than the obvious safety concern, it also prevents the key from being removed because the van doesn't recognize that it is fully in park. It also will occasionally get stuck in park and won't move without depressing the little release above the shifter. I removed the **** and verified that it was a problem with the rod and not the button. Do I need to replace the shifter assembly or adjust the shifter cable? Maybe the rod in the shifter shaft just needs some wd-40? Thanks!
