97 GC Sport 3.3 4spd, what yr transmission will work?
I have a 97 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport, 3.3L, 4 speed. The transmission needs replaced. I'm currently unable to find a low mileage used transmission for a 97. I seem to remember hearing a while back that other model years would work but may need to change the flex plate and the connector for the range selector. Can anyone confirm if a transmission from a 2003 Chrysler T&C 3.3L 4speed would work in my 97? Would I need to change the flex plate and the connector for the range selector? Would there be any problem with the Transmission Control Unit being compatible? Would the gear ratio / final drive be the same? Thanks in advance for any info.
Can someone Please give me a reply to let me know it there is something wrong with my post. I do see that this thread has been viewed several times with not a single reply. Did I do something wrong???
It's a good possibility that no one knows the answer to your question. I don't post unless I have useful information for the problem. Being a dealer tech, I have never encountered that issue because I can get the correct parts. If you didn't lose a differential pin and blow a hole through the case, why don't you have it rebuilt.
The answer to your question to what year donor trannys fit your van can be determined through hollander interchange data or checking used parts sites on internet. Spend some time on ebay or web salvage sites and you will figure it out.
Other questions you posed will alkso need separately researched. It is n't that hard to investigate final drive ratios thru edmunds and other sources for those years. As for crossing other parts like flex plates and shifter stuff, just go to dodge oem parts sites and determine the factory part# for your vehicle and the donor vehicle. If they are the same, then you win.
