2000 GC 3.3 Steering Sloppy
I looked up under the van and didn't see anything broken, but then again I'm not sure what to look for. Is there something that I need to inspect closely? Is there anything I can adjust? I am just not sure. TIA
Please define "sloppy".
Absent a better description of your problem, you can and should check the following:
Absent a better description of your problem, you can and should check the following:
- condition of tie rods, including inner boots
- condition of tie rod ends, especially the boots
- power steering fluid level and condition (i.e., is it dirty?)
- power steering hoses for leaks
- does power steering pump pulley wobble?
By sloppy, I mean alot of "Play" in the steering.
And I do have a power steering leak. I need to clean all the fluid off the engine and surrounding areas to see where it is coming from.
On the leak issue is there a place (inlet, outlet hoses, pump, etc) that is more prone to fail than any other?
TIA

My '08 developed a leak in the PS high pressure hose, right at the fitting between the metal tube and rubber hose. I'm told that 4th gens are prone to issues related to the reservoir but I'm not too sure about what exactly that is, and I'm not sure about the 3rd gens, which is what you have.
If the steering has excessive play, however, I would not suspect the PS system at first; I would suspect a loose tie rod end or worn gear or rack. If you have the same excessive play problem with the engine on or off, then it's not the PS system.
