2001 Chrysler Town & Country
I think that the transmission is going but I am hoping that it might just be a part that needs to be replaced.
This transmission has about 70k miles on it. When driving at freeway speeds it will occasionally fall out of gear. I have changed the fluid and filter. There was not metal shavings on the magnet inside the pan or this post would not have ever started. After the fluid and filter change, it seems to fall out of gear less often but it still does it from time to time. Is it new tranny time or could this be a valve body or something else. There is not a check engine light on either. thanks in advance for you help

Might consider changing all the fluid if you only dropped the pan and refilled with 3-4 quarts. How? Disconnect the cooler lines and pump it out with the transmission's own pump. There are procedures posted here and on other forums. The tranny will hold 8-9 quarts total, most of it in the torque converter. Make sure you use only ATF+4 fluid. Other than that you'll need a pro.
Ok, So update to my problem. I have changed all the fluid, following guidelines listed on forum. BTW. The Return line is the one on the left if you are facing the front of your Van for anybody else that is wondering. I found this out the hard way. So 12 Quarts later I now have a check engine light and the Tranny is in limp mode. I will try to get this read and report back. Thanks in advance.
Codes I received are 0605, 0700, 1714, 1739, 1768, 1791. Auto zone did not have the interpretation for these codes. When I looked them up, some of them were likely the result of the flush, 1791, when I could not pour fast enough to keep up with how much was pumping out. I unhooked the battery and now I get 0700 and 1684. So now where do I go. The code 0700 says that the tranny has codes that need to be read. I assume that is the 1714, 1739, 1768. I hope this does not spell out to be a new tranny.
