I have a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan and the odd time the DVD Player and radio screen will just shut off. It will come back on when the van is shut off and turned back on again. Recently, the DVD player and radio will shut off in addition to all of my fans. The dealership charged me $135 to diagnose the problem and now says the Wireless Control Module has a short in it and needs to be replaced at $525. What does the WCM even do and would this be causing this type of problem? Thanks.

 

WCM is the Ignition cylinder.


try this, While the Engine is running, Crank the Key to "START" position, and watch Radio, fan, and window shut off. I believe the dealer is saying the WCM is not reading the key position right.

 

Thanks for your reply. If I do turn it to start, and that does happen, what does that mean? So does this warrant replacing it? They said that eventually when this starts happening around 1x per day, eventually my engine won't start...

 

It means the Ignition Cylinder has an internal short, it thinks your key is in START while it is not.


I am not sure about the part about eventually your engine won't start because of it. Well, eventually the floor board will rust out and wheel would fall off 30 years later... Only God knows when will that happens.


but generally cars don't fix itself, it only gets worse as time goes on. I think it would be a good idea to get it fix before things completely fall apart. Perhaps you can ask them to drop the price a little.
