Question Rear Hatch Entry

2006 Grand Caravan

Does anyone have an answer as to why the ignition key will not unlock the rear Hatch? This is the 3 rd Grand caravan I've had this same problem with. I have sprayed Penetrating Oil into the Key Hole several times in hoping that would cure the issue.

I never got a 3 rd key with this one, and am wondering if the Valet Key is needed. Sure would appreciate any advice on this, thank you in advance.

Usually they corrode from lack of use. Once they are stuck, penetrating oil isn't going to do anything. You need to remove the cylinder, take it apart and clean it. Grease it good and put together. And not sure if the valet key would even open the hatch. I know on a 4 door it wont work the trunk and glove box, not sure if minivan is hatch and glove box or just glove box.

Tizzy1, thank you much appreciate the reply. I was afraid that would be the answer. Thats the trouble with all this electrical gizmos on the key fobs, no one wants to use the key anymore. Oh well guess I will have to do what you said, thanks again for the thumbs up.

The lube of choice for lock tumblers used to be powdered graphite. Now it's dry teflon lube. Pick it up at any auto parts store or Home Depot. Shake can really well to mix the teflon in with the solvent. And shoot a lot into the lock cylinder. Most of what you're spraying is the solvent. But once it evaporates, you'll leave a light coating of teflon inside the lock. That'll keep it turning without gumming up like a regular lubricating oil
