[5th Gen : 08+]: 2012 Gr Caravn Door Pillar Rattle
Good afternoon,
I have a 2012 Grand Caravan which has a rattling sound coming from the rear of the vehicle mostly at low speeds over bumps like in our subdivision our in town. Its not so bad on the highway. I crawled in the back and let the wife drive me around and it sounds like its coming from the drivers side second row door pillar which is just forward of the back wheel. It is making this metallic rattling sound regardless of whether the sliding door is opened or closed. I previously owned Toyotas only but bought my first Dodge after getting sick of paying the repair bills on the Toyotas. Although the Caravan is not as refined it definitely has a lot of upside and I really like it. I purchased it with 38000 miles this past July and was previously a rental. Any help anyone might be able to give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tracy

Welcome.
My son had a rattle in the area of the driver side sliding door on his 2012 van. After a couple of visits to his dealer the problem was fixed by tightening the door latch screws on the door and the pillar where the latch attaches.
Good luck.

Thanks for your response unfortunately I had checked those screws prior to posting and they were all tight. The noise is coming a bit lower than that. Right around where the seatbelt bolts to the floor however that bolt is tight also. Its driving me crazy!
rattle noises are horrible.......to listen to and to find. 2012 did have shock absorber noise issues. I have also seen the park brake cable hitting the axle arm. I have also seen the sliding door itself be the cause, lube the door opening weatherstrip with a silicon based lubricant and see if it goes away.
I replaced my rear shocks this day before yesterday and the drivers side was definitely bad so this has helped this rattling noise a lot however there still is a rattle which sounds like it's coming from the same door. After studying various posts it sounds like I may have to adjust the door however I can't find a procedure to do this. My Haynes manual has nothing but removal and replacement. By looking at the door itself it does not look properly aligned espescially with the drivers door. Does anyone have experience making these adjustments? Did they help? Thanks for everyone's input.

By the way Kemo I did take silicone lube and coat both the upper and lower tracks of the door with no effect It is still a metallic sound like its rattling on the latch. Thanks for the input.
Sorry to hear you’re experiencing this concern. Have you had a chance to take your vehicle to a dealership? Rattles can be tough to diagnose, but if they spend some time with your vehicle they may be able to pinpoint the cause of your concern.
