Default 2011 caravan liftgte strut replacement

I need to replace the liftgate struts on my 2011 Grand Caravan. I ordered the replacement struts throught factorymopar.com. i received the parts; however both struts have an "R" on them indicating both are for the right (passanger) side.

Through many calls and talking to the dealership I was advised that the parts have been superseded with a new part number (Security Forces Radio Status Check, All Responding Units (68089035AB). they do not make seperate Left and Right struts.

I was told that in order to make the strut fit the left side that you need to manually twist the top of the strut in order to get the bottom of the strut to line up with the retaining bolt.

does anyone know if this is accurate and exactly which end of the strut i need to twist to get the strut to line up? i was also told not to use any pliers or other like tools to do this and to be careful not to damage the strut or it make break the seal.

does anyone have a diagram of this installation or any pics they can share?

I know this is probably a very simple installation and this might be uncalled for for this forum. I just want to make sure that i was informed correctly and that i dont damage the strut when trying to install it.
