Default No Heat 2008 Grand Caravan SXT 3.8 liter engine

No heat.

Symptoms no heat.

Even after letting car warm up to where temp gauge was in the middle of the range neither hose near the firewall warmed up.

seemed to have enough coolant in the reservoir

Belt has been sqealing some. Heard periodic squeal in the serpentine belt system.

Is it thermostat, air in the system, water pump, blockage or something else?

No response here but I went shopping at the stealer(prices were marked up 10% or more over MSRP I found on MOPAR dealer websites, almost 40% over discounted price. for a little Saturday morning repair.

Thermostat - cost outrageous
Water pump - cost outrageous
gasket - cost outrageous
belt - cost outrageous

Now for some Saturday morning wrench turning. Good times

Wrenching update.

Water pump and thermostat in. Changing the water pump is pretty straight forward. It won't help to drop the engine down like on Gen4, if you wanted to loosen the cross member you might get it down low enough. I ended up using a 13 mm gear wrench and pulley holder to get the pulley off. 10 mm half inch socket ended up being the best option for me to get the pump off. A medium depth 3/8 inch 10 mm might be ideal to to get the pump off.

Seemed to restore the heat and return the car to running unusually cool. However the guage went completely to cold when driving and then threw an engine code and had a red electrical light. Took the radiator cap off. Topped off the radiator. Restarted the car. Red electrical light was gone but code is still there. It ran very cool but was registering a temp

Any ideas. Going to check it a couple of times tomorrow and get the code checked at autozone. I think maybe there was air bubble in the system.

final results:

Turned on the ignition. Held the trip reset button for 10 seconds. Code h65535 appeared. Check engine light has gone away. Looks like maybe this was an electrical gremlin causing the EGR light and the temp gauge to go to nothing.

I think everything is good! Ran car for a while in the driveway. No leaks, hoses heated up normally. I think maybe the drive side air box flap isn't not working well. I turned on the A/C to warm the operating temp. The drive side still had heat mixed in and the passenger side didn't but I won't be taking apart the dash until that becomes a serious problem. Maybe in the spring if the problem gets worse.
