Exclamation Better MPG mod?!! ('14 Grand Caravan 3.6)

Ok so I own a 2014 Grand Caravan SE, has the 3.6L Pentastar V6 and I am get roughly 14-15mpg in this cold weather in Chicago. Van gets roughly 18mpg in the summer over here. Now with gas already hitting $4 per gallon and going up higher in Chicago I was toying with the idea of using an open conical type air filter on the stock intake plenum tube. Basically it will be sucking warmer air from the engine bay. Thus sucking warm air it'll lose performance likely (horsepower) but return possible better MPGs. Now my question, is this a good cheap mod to make to improve MPGs and is there a negative return from this mod like heat soak, check engine mil light turning on, limp mode, loss of HPs and torque??!!

Thanks

Researched more about the conical air filter and it just makes really more noise then anything! I went on ecomoder forums and other sources and all what's happening is that your engine will suck in hotter engine bay heat which will cause to drop in horsepower and torque and possibly trigger a check engine light (lean code) and even possibly a limp mode! MPGs are the same as well! Good thing didn't toy around and try it! lol

Get a K&N filter brah! And lose any unnecessary weight that you can from your vehicle. And properly inflated tires yadda yadda. I hear exhaust tips will give you 20% more MPGs and a 30 HP boost as well

Not all fuel is the same. We drive 16 miles to fill up at a particular station and it's worth every mile. There is sweet and sour crude (not a joke, but feel free to laugh) and additives that I found mentioned even in my Chrysler Pacifica manual such MMT that is meant to cheat octane requirements but turn the gas to crap. Same as ethanol above 10% (BTW ethanol combusts to form ground level ozone which damages lung tissue and, no, it doesn't benefit the ozone layer).

Find the gas station that consistently has a good quality fuel because some of the crap they sell won't let you get down to the next exit on the highway before you can see the fuel gauge drop.
