97 Grand Caravan cupholder question

My front cupholders in my van are a little hard to close. I have a 97 grand caravan. The cupholders slide out, right below the radio. Any advice on how to take the unit out?

Right above the cupholder is a small 3" wide by 1/4" tall plastic panel (same color as the dash) remove that and there are 2 screws under there, they hold the cupholder in and the trim piece around the radio.
