1999 Grand Caravan Strut Tower Corrosion
We bought this vehicle new and noticed rust beginning to form on top of the driver-side strut tower after a few short years. At present the rust is pretty bad with flaking. Note that the tower on the passenger side--as well as the rest of the engine compartment--does not show any signs of corrosion.
I was speaking with a relative in Minnesota recently and he mentioned that someone he knew had the exact same problem!
I have not found any recall, tsb, or forum postings on this issue. If anyone has dealt with this issue, I would be eager to understand possible cause, and what if anything was done to resolve. I would image this might be a safety issue at some point--one good pothole strike and the strut could possibly punch through the top!

There is a TSB on this concern, and it involves a giant cap for the strut, all the necessary parts are included in the kit along with instructions. You need a power riverter for this job. Ive seen them come through, we use a heavy amount of salt around here and it eats everything! Check at your dealer for the TSB

This bulletin involves correcting a corrosion staining, surface corrosion, or corrosion perforation condition at the top of the strut tower/s.
MODELS:
1996 - 2000 NS Town&Country/Voyager/Caravan
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Cosmetic corrosion or perforation at upper strut tower/s usually between the strut and upper load path beam inner panel (inner fender).
DIAGNOSIS:
Inspect left and right strut towers for condition. If corrosion is present, perform one of the following repair procedures.
NOTE: ANY UNDER HOOD LABELS REQUIRING REPLACEMENT DURING THESE REPAIRS SHOULD BE OBTAINED PRIOR TO BEGINNING REPAIRS.

Is Dodge/ Chryler not willing to admit there was a probloem with the heat under the hood and the batteries boiling over cuasing the stut tower damage.
COMESTIC DAMAGE, was is that garbage about, it becomes a safety issue.
Take care of the customer if you want to keep them coming back.
A little investment on Chrylers part could result in more Chryler products purchased or at least good PR.
