If you've changed the fluid, it should be alright. The other issue that throws a P0740 is connectors somewhere. Something about the TC lockup clutch. Have you had the codes erased? It may just be sitting cached in the computer.

Depends on what is causing the code, the TC may not be locking, if that's the case it could last another 100k it just won't be as efficient. Could be trans related, then it could hatch tomorrow.

Good question, Why is the van not worth fixing?

Don't like to mention this, but if "flushing" means power flush, then you didn't do the van's life expectancy any favors. But if it was a "transfer" using the van's own pump and the tranny cooler lines, that should be fine. Was the pan dropped, and the filter replaced? Do you know it was filled with ATF+4 fluid? Have you checked the fluid level yourself? (wouldn't be the first time a shop left the fluid too low).

Joy of vehicles, you'll always have more in it then it's worth.

Chances are it's an electrical issue of some sort causing the code to be thrown, a reputable trans shop will figure out the issue cheap (some free), then you could decide where to go from there. If you figure out the issue now, chances are it will cost less to fix then rebuilding a trans, and will give you many years more service.

Buying another van sounds good now, but after paying another $2k, then sticking $x into it for whatever flaws it has hiding (which they all do), and registering it, you could have just had the trans done in the one you have and you'd have a vehicle you know, instead of someone else's problems. Just another point of view on it.
