When pushing the remote to open the passenger sliding door you hear a fast winding sound like a stripped plastic gear trying to engage, so when you manually release door handle (during that sound) the door sequence begins.

Same if you are opening the door (electronically) on the inside...once you initiate opening and hear the winding sound you push the release button on the door handle and the door opens under power

Any idea what the issue is? Have a wheelchair ramp in front of door so if I knew the problem and could get the part could resolve in one session.
